Couldn't agree with you more about Sam Cooke... Harlem Square Club is a perfect live album... there's just a palpable energy to it that you can't usually feel in a recording (I actually wrote a bit about it here). And the use of the marimbas on "Good Times" has always been one of my favorite quirky little orchestrations of Sam.

Keep writing about him! I'd love to read more of your thoughts.

Never heard of Doug Sahm, but what a great song! And, my god, the delivery is such that you could almost mistake it for Elvis Costello. Very interesting set of connections.
